critical reading for the rude

books don’t nut-up

Just had one of those moments that comes upon me now and again. Sea-change media moments.

I was browsing through a book by Lisa Dawley, and I thought to myself: why does this need to be in printed book format? And, given the contents of the book, yeah, printed book seems less useful than something hyperlinked and interactive. Something with demos.

It was a litte jolt. The book artifact just doesn’t nut-up the same way, say, a wiki does.

And that’s a librarian sayin’ that.

Give me something spimey and kirkyan and g.u.i. and social and verifiable and accountable and connected, please. But don’t loose my physicality. I like browsing. I just want to browse a smarter “thing”.

Not a new idea or anything, just another one of those kind of moments.
